Around the same era as when Bob Peak became popular, Bernie Fuchs was yet another dominating American illustrator that became very much in demand for his energetic and expertly designed illustrations. Despite his expertise and signature sensibilities, Fuchs had no formal art training prior to becoming an illustrator. Fuchs’ first job was illustrating car ads for New Center Studios in Detroit, MI, and it was his talent that pulled in much success to the firm. After working in Automobile advertisement illustration for some time, in the late 50s Fuchs moved to Connecticut and illustrated for publications such as McCalls, Sports Illustrated and more. He has also painted portraits of U.S. Presidents including John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson and Ronald Reagan, as well as celebrities and athletes such as Arnold Palmer, Muhammad Ali and Katharine Hepburn. Fuchs was the youngest illustrator elected to the Society of Illustrators in 1959, and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 1975.
